Obama's Delhi visit: Traffic arrangements put in place

Traffic will be blocked on the roads during the time when the US President's and his convoy's movement takes place tomorrow and the day after,'' Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) Satinder Garg said.

Mr Obama, who arrived in Mumbai this afternoon on his maiden three-day state visit, will land in the Capital tomorrow afternoon and stay till the forenoon of November 9.

Mr Garg said while not much problems with regard to traffic is expected tomorrow, there may be congestion and delay in the movement on Monday.

''Since tomorrow is Sunday, there should not be much trouble but there could be traffic restrictions on Monday on few roads where the VVIP movement takes place from 0800 hrs to 2200 hrs,'' he told reporters.

He said people should expect 15-20 minutes delay in traffic movement than the usual working day and advised to leave for their destinations a bit early.

Since there will be movement of the President's cavalcade whole day on Monday, the official suggested the people to avoid Sardar Patel Marg and take alternative routes to reach New Delhi.

''People can take Shanti Path and Vinay Marg to reach New Delhi areas,'' he said.

He also appealed to avoid Rajghat and Delhi Gate in the morning hours on November 8.

Besides, both the carriageways leading from the airport to Maurya Sheraton, where Obama is to stay, will be closed for public traffic when the President's cavalcade is moving.

About 300-400 traffic personnel will be deployed to regulate and monitor the traffic movement wherein VVIP movement will be happening, he informed.
